Hello readers, I am back with the story “What Happened on the Friday”. On Friday, what happened you know my dear reader friends, Tom was chasing Jerry as Jerry rang the bell nearer to Tom’s ears. “Stop..stop…Afroza….what are you saying? Tom and Jerry in Peter Pan?” “Oh my god, sorry friends. I am coming to Peter Pan.” As I wrote in my previous blog, Mrs. Darling hid the shadow in the drawer and waited for the proper day to tell his husband about the shadow and the day came. On that day, she wanted to tell everything his husband. She knew what his husband would respond. Suddenly she saw something in the right-hand corner of Nana’s mouth that wanted her not to call the name of Peter, and that was Jerry…… oops

“Jerry…….again……..Afroza, tell me why you mention the Jerry again and again.” Actually, before posting this blog I was watching Tom & Jerry. I am crazy for these two cartoon characters.  I was totally lost in it, and suddenly I remembered that I had to read Peter Pan and blog the post.

“So what? Stop writing and watch Tom & Jerry.” “No, No I can’t . I like Tom & Jerry but I like grade A in my study more than cartoons.” “Oh…then you should concentrate on Peter Pan. Now no Jerry and no Tom….only Peter Pan.” Ok, readers. On the one hand, Mrs. Darling could not say anything to his husband. She and Nana thought of the dreadful evening sitting in the nursery. On the other hand, Michel was shouting because he did not want to go to bed at six o’clock. There is another comedy in the story. Mr. Darling knew about stocks and shares, had no real mastery of his tie. When it came to his tie, he swallowed his pride and used a made-up tie. Mr. and Mrs. Darling recalled many memories of their wedding, the birth of their children, the games they played with their children and Nana. This time Mrs. Darling thought that this is the right opportunity to tell his husband about the shadow. She showed the shadow him and he became thoughtful. He examined the shadow carefully and ignored it saying that it was done by a scoundrel.   Then a silly and stupid battle starts between Mr. Darling and Michel related to taking medicine and to mention those dialogues here and I do not want to get you bored because I and my group have already played a drama of these dialogues in the class, but one thing I tell you that Mr. Darling poured his medicine into the Nana’s bowl. How timid he was for taking medicine! One thing I could not understand the meaning of some sentences in the story.
She went from bed to bed singing enchantments over them, and little Michael flung his arms round her. “Mother,” he cried, “I’m glad of you.” They were the last words she was to hear from him for a long time.
May be I get the reply of my question later in the story and you too.
You all reader must be thinking that in the previous blog I created a surprise saying that I am going to tell you what happened on the Friday but I know you found nothing mysterious.   But keep reading my blogs, readers. May be I tell you the secret of the above paragraph I wrote in italicized style in right next blog. Ok thanking you and good bye…..see you soon.

The Shadow

Hi! My dear readers, I am back with further story of Peter Pan.

As we learned in chapter 1, when Mrs. Darling was dreaming the window of the nursery blew open and a boy did drop on the floor. He had a strange light in his hand. When she saw the boy, she started crying, and somehow she knew at once he was Peter Pan.

Listening to her screaming, Nana entered the room and sprang at the boy, who escaped through the window. She thought the boy was killed but she found no body in the street and got relaxed.

When she returned from the nursery, she found something strange in the Nana’s mouth. It was the boy’s shadow. The boy was successful to escape from the Nana’s grip but his shadow had not had the time to get out. While examining the shadow she found nothing extra-ordinary. First she thought of telling her husband what happened, but she did not do so because she knew his reply, “It all comes of having a dog for a nurse.”

Then she decided to hang the shadow at the window but it seemed like the washing and lowered the whole tone of the house. (Not only she but also every woman thinks so) so she put it carefully in a drawer and waited for a fitting opportunity for telling her husband about the shadow, and the opportunity came a week later, on that never-to-be-forgotten Friday.

Now to know about what happened on Friday, you all readers will have to wait for my next blog…….Thanking you……..Bye…………

Peter Breaks Through

I have read the chapter 1 of Peter Pan. Before telling you story, I will get you acquainted about the characters of this novel:

Mrs. Darling:  Mrs. Darling is a lovely lady with a romantic mind and such a sweet mocking mouth. She always wants to see her children happy and delightful. When she was girl, many boys loved her and ran to her house to propose to her but only Mr. Darling could win her.

Mr. Darling: Mr. Darling is a husband of Mrs. Darling. He could win her because he took a cab and nipped in first to propose her. He always boasts to his children that he has vast knowledge of stocks and shares, and he is not only loved but also respected by her wife.

Wendy: Wendy is a first child of Mr. and Mrs. Darling

John and Michel: They are siblings of Wendy, born after Wendy.

Nana: Nana was a prim
Newfoundland dog who accompanies the children of Mr. & Mrs. Darling in the Miss fulsom’s kindergarten.

Peter Pan: Mrs. Darling first heard of Peter when she was tidying her children’s mind. She could not understand them as she knew of no Peter. But her daughter Wendy got her realized that she knew him. She remembered a Peter Pan who was said to live with the fairies. There were odd stories about him.

Wendy always said that Peter sometimes came to the nursery in the night and sat on the foot of her bed and played on his pipes to her. Unfortunately she never woke, so she didn’t know how she knew, she just knew, but nobody was ready to believe her, especially her mother. Her mother was surprised when she saw skeleton leaves which did not come from any tree that grew in
England and marks of a strange foot.

One day, while she slept, she had a dream. What happened in her dream, you can find from the excerpt from the chapter 1 mentioned below:

She dreamt that the Neverland had come too near and that a strange boy had broken through from it. He did not alarm her, for she thought she had seen him before in the faces of many women who have no children. Perhaps he is to be found in the faces of some mothers also. But in her dream he had rent the film that obscures the Neverland, and she saw Wendy and John and Michael peeping through the gap. The dream by itself would have been a trifle, but while she was dreaming the window of the nursery blew open, and a boy did drop on the floor. He was accompanied by a strange light, no bigger than your fist, which darted about the room like a living thing and I think it must have been this light that wakened Mrs. Darling. She started up with a cry, and saw the boy, and somehow she knew at once that he was Peter Pan. If you or I or Wendy had been there we should have seen that he was very like Mrs. Darling’s kiss. He was a lovely boy, clad in skeleton leaves and the juices that ooze out of trees but the most entrancing thing about him was that he had all his first teeth. When he saw she was a grown-up, he gnashed the little pearls at her.

Mrs. Darling saw in her dream what her daughter discussed about Peter Pan with her. This is the story I have read in the chapter 1 of Peter Pan. I hope you enjoyed it. What will happen next, keep visiting my blog.

Since January 25, 2007 I have started to read this novel. Before going to chapter 1 of it, I read the article about the author’s early life and his work and I got confused while reading first paragraph because his father and his brother share the same name “David”. Anyway it does not matter because Shakespeare mentioned in one of his books “ WHAT IS THERE IN THE NAME?”

James Barrie wrote many novels and it indicates his great contribution in literature and his novel “Peter Pan” is  a first-person narrative about a wealthy bachelor clubman’s attachment to a little boy, David.
